Micro Needling

Collagen Induction Therapy: Micro Needling

As we age, the body’s natural production of supporting cells, fibroblasts and the skin’s collagen and elastin naturally diminish leading to wrinkles and skin sagging. Stimulating the skin to produce more fibroblasts, collagen and elastin is called 'Collagen Induction Therapy'.

This therapy is used as an alternative to facelifts and other surgical interventions with remarkable results. Make way for a revolution in natural skin rejuvenation!

The Uber chemical peel is designed specifically to be used during micro needling sessions. Please contact us for further information if you would like to know about our Ultimate Skin Rejuvenation Package: We recommend combining a course of chemical peels alongside our Collagen Induction Therapy - Microneedling package. Your skin will LOVE you for it.

Micro needling with the Dermapen – how does it work?

The Micro needling pen is glided over the skin and microscopic channels are lightly stamped into the skins matrix stimulating a wound healing response with intense, renewal, repair and rejuvenation. Natural growth factors are released to stimulate reformation and deposition of fresh, restructuring collagen.

We tailor every treatment to your individual needs by applying state of the art products containing collagen, hyaluronic acid, vitamin, mineral and antioxidant formulas to your skin. When the pen glides over your skin it also stamps these products deep under the skin layers for maximum absorption. This is known as Mesotherapy.

The Micro needling pen offers a safer and more effective piercing of the skin than the traditional skin needling roller. It stimulates a superior effect on collagen and elastin rejuvenation. Due to its design it can effectively treat hard-to-reach places and it can deliver up to 1300 micro channels per second!

The pen promotes scar-less healing and natural collagen reproduction. Primarily we use micro needling for treatment of fine line and wrinkles, pore minimization, acne and chicken pox scars and stretch marks. Micro needling has been endorsed by celebrities the world over and now this wonderful rejuvenation treatment is widely available for all to benefit.

Micro needling treatments:

Treatment areas are not limited to the face, we can also include neck, décolletage, the hands and targeting specific areas of concern, such as scarring.

One off treatments: to be performed 7 days before a big event. We tailor the treatment by selecting vitamin, mineral and antioxidant boosters that help you look most radiant!

Treatment packages for example anti-ageing skin rejuvenation: We recommended you have a course of 3 treatments, 6 -8 weeks apart for best results.

For skin rejuvenation maintenance: we recommended partaking in skin needling treatments 3 to 4 times per year.

What side effects may I expect following treatment?

The treated area will be red for 12 -48 hours and your skin may feel warmer and tighter than usual much like the sensation of mild sunburn or wind burn. You need to avoid wearing make up for 24 hours. Please don’t use any harsh products on your skin, as your skin will remain sensitive for several days following treatment e.g. Vitamin C serums, products containing Retinol or Glycolic acid need to be avoided for several days post procedure.

The skin may flake slightly for 2-3 days after the procedure, this is completely normal. The aim of this treatment is to cause a wound healing response so that your body will rejuvenate the skin. The side effects listed above are confirmation that your body is doing it’s job well in order to repair and replenish.

Here are our top tips to help get the best from your micro needling treatment:

The most beneficial treatment outcomes that we have seen in clinical practice tend to come from clients who adhere to the following lifestyle choices:

  • Non smoker
  • Low Glycemic Index diet
  • Supplementation of Vitamin C 1000mg daily
  • Supplementation of Collagen peptides
  • Applying a daily protection from environmental damage such as: a topical antioxidant/Vitamin C serum and using a SPF 50
  • Maintain adequate hydration
  • Good circulation (usually due to levels of fitness) but this can be improved by incorporating a gentle facial massage into your daily routine

Post treatment aftercare

Do not expose yourself to the sun: After you have undergone the micro needling procedure, please avoid the sun. After 24 hours apply SPF 50 but please refrain from direct sun exposure if possible for up to 5 days.

Do not use any ‘active ingredient’ skin products: Post procedure, avoid any skin care product that has active ingredients. These commonly include things like Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and other similar agents. The skin will be highly sensitive and these products will only irritate it further.

Avoid the use of makeup after treatment: It is imperative that you let your skin “breathe” and recover for 24 hours after the procedure. Using a makeup brush can contaminate the skin and, consequently, lead to infections. Wait 24 to 48 hours before you apply face makeup to give your skin the necessary time to recover.

Do supplement with Collagen Peptides: Micro needling stimulates the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen Peptides assist in that process, there are various collagen powders available, they can offer high bioavailability and dissolve easily in food or a cup of tea.

Who should avoid this treatment?

Keloid scars: A keloid is a thick overgrown scar resulting from excessive growth of collagen that can occur after injury and is more prevalent in people of African descent. The pen stimulates collagen production so this is not an appropriate treatment for anyone who has a propensity to form keloid scars.

Haemophiliacs and Other Blood Disorders: If you suffer from any condition where you have low platelets, you bruise very easily and you find your body has difficulty stopping bleeding when you injure yourself, then this procedure is not for you.

Skin Disease: Suffering from any type of skin disease would most likely be a contraindication to skin needling. Please contact the clinic and we can discuss this with you.

Poor Health: Anyone who has a significantly compromised immune system is most likely not a candidate for skin needling.

The can have but have to wait group

Active Acne: Once the infected acne is no longer active you can proceed with treatment. Skin needling active acne is never advised as it can spread infection.

Active Cold Sores: Once fully recovered you can proceed with treatment but otherwise the fluid in the cold sore (that contains thousands of active Herpes Simplex viruses) could spread infection.

Active Shingles or Chicken Pox: Highly contagious virus hence the same applies as active cold sores.

Just had Invasive Skin Laser Treatment: Wait until the skin fully recovers before any further procedures are undertaken

Just had Dermal Fillers or Botox: In most cases treatments with dermal fillers or muscle relaxants you can undertake skin needling 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after. Please discuss this with us prior to treatment.

Recent Facial Surgery: Need to wait until the skin fully recovers before any further procedures are undertaken. Usually, 6 months is a safe estimate and but you should seek clearance from your doctor.

New Scars: Wait until the skin fully recovers before any further procedures are undertaken. The skin would need to be examined on a case by case basis.

Topical Corticosteroids: Prescribed corticosteroids can have a thinning effect on the skin. This would need to be examined on a case by case basis.

Pregnancy & Breast Feeding: The demands on your body are great during the phase of developing a child or breast feeding your baby, so it’s probably best not to add the burden of tissue repair on your body at this time.
